Some other times your instructor or your teacher might want you to write your essay in MLA (Modern Language Association) style. It is another standard format of essay that is used widely in academic setting. Every format has its own unique style of writing and it follows a certain guidelines. Likewise MLA style also follows a certain guidelines.

The Heading of your essay in MLA style is a must. Write your and your instructor’s name in the upper left corner of your essay. Mention your course and date. Use double space in everything. The date should be as date month and year format.

The title of the essay should be at the centre of the page. There is no need of making it bold or underline the title. Your title should be double spaced from the text of your essay.

When you are numbering the pages of your essay, remember you need to put your last name first before you put the page number. The page number should be at the extreme right corner of the page. Put your last name, give one space and then give the page number. Do not place p. before the page number. A lot of instructors do not wish to see page number in the first page. Just to clear your doubt, ask your instructor before you put page number.

Your margins should be of 1 inch.  While you are using space in the document, remember you need to put double space in the whole essay. The type of your font should be Times New Roman and the size should be 12-pt. the first word in every paragraph should be indented one half inch.

While citing your work, use a different page totally. Put that page at the end of your paper. If you have to provide any internet links in your essay while citing, remember to remove the hyperlinks.

It is not necessary to put Title page in your essay unless you are asked to by your instructor.

The tables and illustrations should be put as possible to the text that they most closely refer to. The title of the table should be formatted the same way as the title of the paper. Provide any notes or sources underneath the table if necessary. Use double spacing throughout the table. While you are putting any illustrations such as an image, label them. Assign an Arabic number followed by a caption.

While using numbers remember never to start a sentence with a number. Even if you have to, put it in words and spell out the number. Before any symbols or abbreviations, always use a number.
